THE WORLD FAMOUS STOUT
The Paulaner monks started brewing beer for use in the cloister as early as 1634. The rules of their order generally allowed them such sparse nutrition that they desperately needed »liquid bread« for strength, particularly during the more severe castigation of the fasting periods.
Salvator - the granddaddy of all stouts, the original itself.
With its full-blooded, typically malty taste, it can be called the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented strong Doppelbock beer combines the finest hops with dark barley malt. During the fasting period, it served the Paulaner monks as »liquid nourishment«.
The most famous master brewer was Brother Barnabas, and his original recipe survives virtually unchanged.
Original wort: 18.3 %, alcohol 7.9%, calories 70.6 kcal/100 ml.
